Weather Ready Meteorologist

Hey West Michigan! I’m Gracyn Freund, and I’m absolutely thrilled to be part of the Fox 17 Weather Ready Team.

I’m a Michigan native from Jackson, which is just a few towns over, and a proud graduate of Michigan State University (Go Green!). While attending MSU, I interned at WLNS 6 News in Lansing.

My interest in weather sparked in my freshman year of high school. In my general science class, we spent about a week studying weather and meteorology. When we finished the lesson and moved on, I remember thinking, “wait, that was really cool.” That moment stuck with me and eventually led me to study Environmental Geography with a focus in Atmospheric and Climate Science at Michigan State.

After graduating in 2023, I moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to start my broadcast career as a meteorologist and reporter at KGAN, an affiliate of CBS and FOX. During my time in the Hawkeye State, I covered all kinds of severe weather—tornadoes, floods, blizzards, and heatwaves—while also reporting on a wide range of environmental stories affecting communities across Eastern Iowa.

Spending some time away from home really made me appreciate just how amazing Michigan is, and I’m so grateful to be back in the mitten, closer to my family and friends.

When I’m not in the weather center, you’ll usually find me outside, either at the lake relaxing or boating, or out on a bike ride. I also love spending my downtime cooking, shopping, and cheering on MSU basketball and football — and the Lions, of course!
