Man Celebrates 33rd Birthday With 33 Good Deeds

Grand Rapids, Mich., — For the second year in a row, David Olson is making his birthday memorable by paying it forward. Wednesday, he set out to commit 33 random acts of kindness across the city to celebrate his 33rd birthday.

“I’ve spent a long time looking for gifts or experiences on my birthday, but I think there’s probably no better way to give, than doing so on your birthday,” Olson told FOX 17 News. “It’s not just one day, it’s really kind of changing the perspective around how you act everyday and how you treat people everyday.”

Olson said the day took months of planning and some help from his son and daughter. Together, the trio corralled carts at Meijer, donated donuts to the Grand Rapids Veterans Home and held a cookout for the Kentwood Fire Department, among other things.

“At the end of the day, it really is energizing, really fills your spirit a lot to be out here in the community,” Olson said.
