About FOX 17

In March 1982, WWMA-TV went on air. In February 1983, a group of additional shareholders bought control of the station effective April 1, 1983. On August 15, 1983, the call letters changed to WXMI. In May 1989, a New York-based company headed by Robert Dudley purchased the stock of WXMI. In 1987, WXMI signed an affiliation agreement with the FOX Broadcasting Company, making WXMI a charter FOX television station. Unpublishing Guidelines:

Under some circumstances, FOX 17 will consider editing or archiving certain stories previously posted to the FOX 17 website. Such considerations include:

  • Nonviolent misdemeanor crimes, particularly those from many years ago.
  • Missing persons cases that are resolved without criminal charges.
  • Incidents such as Amber Alerts and Silver Alerts which were resolved without criminal charges.
  • Stories and photos that involve noncriminal behavior.

FOX 17 will not consider requests involving serious felonies, particularly those involving violent crimes, including sexual assault. Public figures and those in positions of trust are held to a higher standard of scrutiny and therefore, stories involving these individuals will be evaluated accordingly.

The station may check court records and other public records to make an informed, compassionate decision. However, the onus is on the subject to collect the pertinent data surrounding each individual case.
