Lots of new road construction activity begins this week

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Mondays usually bring an increased chance of encountering surprises on the road as new construction projects begin. That’s especially true this week.

US-131, Grand Rapids

• Lane closure on US-131 southbound from Leonard Street to Market Avenue through Aug. 28.
• Double lane closures on US-131 southbound from Leonard Street and Market Avenue, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Aug. 3-7, then around the clock on the weekend, Aug. 7-10, Friday 9 p.m. to Monday 5 a.m.
• Double lane closures on US-131 northbound from Hall Street to Leonard Street Aug. 6, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. and Aug. 7, 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.

I-196, Grand Rapids

• Ramp closed from I-196 eastbound to Ottawa Avenue till 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8.
• Detour: Exit at College Avenue

Westaby, Robb

US-131, Byron Township, Kent County

• US-131 northbound right lane closure at 100th Street from Wednesday, 6:30 a.m., to Friday, 2 p.m., Aug. 5-7.

I-196 and M-6, Ottawa County

• I-196 eastbound continues to be closed at M-6. All traffic detoured onto M-6 eastbound through Nov. 14.
• M-6 westbound closed at I-196 westbound through Nov. 14.
• M-6 westbound ramp to I-196 eastbound open.
• I-196 eastbound lane closure from M-6 to Kenowa Avenue through Nov. 14.
• I-196 westbound lane closure at 32nd Avenue through Nov. 14.

• Nighttime lane closures for resurfacing I-94 between 12th Street and the Van Buren County line through September 18.

• Flag crews controlling traffic where work is underway through Sept. 25
