ALLENDALE, Mich. — The Grand Valley State women's soccer team is heading to Mankato, Minnesota to play Indianapolis in the Midwest Regional Championship of the NCAA Tournament on Friday morning at 11 a.m..

The Lakers lead the nation in goals scored with 99 this season.

"If you'd ask me at the beginning of the year if we'd score this many goals I don't know if I could answer yes definitively," sixth year head coach Jeff said. "But happy with the way the offense has progressed and the way our younger players have progressed too."

GVSU has scored 11 goals in its two games in the national tournament and 40 tallies in its last seven games overall.

"It all starts with our back line," leading goal scorer Ava Cook said. "possession is huge for us, with our back line, for them to be able to possess even when they're under pressure, is pretty incredible and it just translates up the field, we know if they're working as hard as they can to keep goals out of the net we need to work as hard as we can to get goals in."

"Everybody does their part," junior Cecilia Steinwascher added. "Multiple people are scoring goals this year. Ava does an amazing job putting balls away. we've had a lot of people step up this year, I think it's everybody and all of our work together that makes it all work."

Friday's winner will advance to Sunday's quarterfinals to play the winner of Minnesota State and Central Missouri.
