GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — We're just a few weeks away from the 4th of July, and celebrations may look different this year.

With several annual firework shows canceled due to the pandemic, there's still a way you can safely host your own backyard show.

Phantom Fireworks in Grand Rapids tells us their store has been very busy lately with people gearing up for their own shows and, with fireworks in such high demand this year, it's important to get your shopping done early before some items sell out.

The showroom manager tells us safety guidelines have been updated to make sure people can view the fireworks safely while keeping social distancing in mind.

"Always try to keep a bucket of water nearby or or running hose, in case something does misfire you can put it out quickly," says Jess Metzger, showroom manager at Phantom Fireworks. "We always recommend that only adults are handling the fireworks from beginning to end. Roman candles should never be held, rockets should never be held, and even sparklers. The sticks are still hot after they're done burning. So, we recommend--all of those items--either get the appropriate kind of PVC pipe that we sell here or putting them in a bucket of sand or (in) the ground."

Keep in mind, when you go to Phantom Fireworks you must wear a mask and follow the marks on the ground for social distancing. They also have curbside pickup available if you would like to avoid entering the store.
