GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Shawn Dill is a small business consultant and runs “Shawn and Lacey” with his wife Lacey where they teach marketing, sales and mindset strategies to help small businesses overcome roadblocks, although the shutdowns of the past 10 months are unlike any other roadblock. “What we’ve done this past year with restrictions is really tighten those small businesses, and in some cases unfortunately, we may have dug them a hold deeper than what they can climb out of,” Dill told Fox 17.

Dill explained the key to keeping local small businesses afloat is not as much about the PPP, but instead what we regular consumers do with our stimulus money, saying he understands for some, making ends meet is the sole usage of the free money, but the majority of the public needs to spend their money productively. “They could take that money and buy a Play Station, and that did not necessarily achieve the end goal. Failure to do that could lead to dire crisis in our economy where, again, the rich are getting richer and then other people are suffering because we block the trickle down,” explained Dill.

In using the President Reagan era term from the 1980’s, Dill calls it our social responsibility to use our money to help others. “We’re trickling down the money coming from the federal government to try and help all the way down to whatever level. Whatever the lowest rung on the totem pole. So the best idea, if possible, is to take your stimulus money and inject it back into the economy. The idea is that it will sort of circulate around and that’s how we’ll be able to support our own communities where we live.”

Regardless of the amount of stimulus money we receive, Dill wants people to know that every little bit we spend locally helps in the grand scheme of things. For small business help, check out Shawn’s website.
