GRAND RAPIDS — We continue to shine a spotlight on mental health and the importance of making sure we are taking care of it, and that goes for teen girls as well.

Whether you have gone through that stage in life yourself or have children who are, you know it's a tough age, especially these days.

The pressure teen girls face today is so different from years ago. Of course, a big part of that comes from social media and the need to feel the need to live up to a certain standard.

That's why April Ogelsby, a counselor with Thrive Center for Wholeness is starting a support group called #LOVEMYSELF, for teen girls who need extra support and confidence by learning to love themselves for who they are.

"Our group was created because, let's face it, there's a lack of support for groups for teen girls in the Grand Rapids area," she said. "And being a teenage girl can be such a vulnerable time in development, and we just felt like there was a need for girls to have a safe space to be able to talk about what they're feeling, so that they can come to a place of being able to address body image and self-esteem and anxiety and like concerns that they have. about peers and relationships. We wanted to offer that safe space for them and hopefully to get them to a place of self love and healing and self-acceptance."

They are hoping to kick things off virtually on Monday, July 27, at 1 p.m.

To sign up, head to their Facebook page or contact April at april@thrivecenterforwholeness.

They also have other support groups, such as "Overcoming Anxiety in a World of Uncertainty," a sexual assault support group for women called "I am a Thriver," and a group for tween LGBTQIA+.
