HOLLAND, Mich. — Tulip Time is making a comeback next year, but the iconic West Michigan festival will look a lot different in 2021.
Organizers say they are planning a limited number of outdoor events to start on May 1 and run through May 9, and all will be run under the guidance of recommendations by the CDC, Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and the Ottawa County Health Department.
Tulip Time 2020 was canceledbecause of the coronavirus pandemic. Holland's Mayor even asked people to not come to Holland to see the tulips.
Some of the events expected to be held next Spring include the Tulip Time Artisan Market, the Tulip Time Run, and Dutch Marktplaats.
The festivals says some of those events will be moved out of downtown Holland to better spread out crowds. The Artisan Market, traditionally held at Centennial Park, will be based at Beechwood Church. A new tulip garden will bloom in Dunton Park on the city's north side.
There will also be millions of tulips in bloom across Holland.
All events will have timed ticketing to limit the number of people taking part at any one time. Details on how that system will work, and where to get tickets has not been released.
No indoor events with fixed seating will be held in 2021.
Organizers say that decisions on many classic elements of Tulip Time, like the Dutch Dance performances and parades, have not been made yet. If a parade can be safely held, the festival expects to hold just one on the second Saturday of the festival, May 8.
