PARK TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Authorities have identified a 16-year-old girl who was swept off the pier Wednesday night at Holland State Park.
Eliza Trainer, who is from the Flint area, was with an 18-year-old male friend around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday looking at the lake from the pier when a wave pulled both of them into the water.
The man was able to get out and ask for help but Trainer couldn’t get out of the water. Rescue teams have been searching for her since the incident was reported Wednesday night but haven’t been able to find her.
Authorities say the search for her is considered a recovery at this point.
Crews are unable to do a search in the water at this time because of severe conditions. The sheriff’s office said waves were as high as 12 feet Wednesday night.
The U.S. Coast Guard has been searching in the air and crews are monitoring conditions in hopes of conducting a water search.
