COOPERSVILLE, Mich. — 28-year-old Matthew Gardner was a loving husband. His mom said he loved every part of adventure.
“Matthew lived 100%, no matter what he did,” Matthew's mother, Jennifer Gardner said.
Matthew died in a snowmobiling accident Sunday. Family says he wasn't drinking or speeding. He hit a patch of ice too fast around a turn.
"It really puts a question on your morals," Robby Gardner said. "It makes you look inside, and I know it’s cliche, saying hi to family, telling them you love them. It was hard for me, because he lived in Switzerland."
Matthew had a successful finance career in Switzerland, where his wife Samantha lived with him and their animals. They were home for a few weeks to see loved ones and celebrate the newest member of their small family.
Samantha is four months pregnant with their first child, a baby boy.
“She’s due in May," Jennifer said. "She doesn’t know what to do. The man that she loves is gone."
Family says while they are heartbroken with the loss of Matthew, a piece of him is still here with them.
“He left a little piece of himself, so at least we can celebrate that,” Jennifer said.
To help Matthew's wife and her baby during this difficult time, family has set up a GoFundMe, which can be found here.
