DES MOINES, Iowa — A Michigan doctor's brief conversation with Vice President Mike Pence is grabbing attention on social media. The video, posted on Twitter and other platforms Thursday night, has already garnered more than 2.5 million views.
In the video, you can see Dr. Rob Davidson, an emergency room doctor in Newago County, asking Vice President Pence about medicaid and other healthcare cuts. Dr. Davidson ran against Representative Huizenga and failed to win the sit by more than 30,000 votes in 2018. Dr. Davidson currently serves as Executive Director of the Committee to Protect Medicare.
The exchange happened at a diner in Des Moines, where Davidson and V.P. Pence had both attended events.
In the video, you can hear the exchange between the two.
"I'm an emergency room doctor," said Dr. Davidson. "I'm worried about the plans that you talked about last week of maybe cutting Medicare and the roll out [Thursday] of cutting Medicaid. I work in one of the poorest counties in Michigan and my patients depend on expanded Medicaid. So how is that going to affect my patients?"
The Vice President responds, "I haven't heard about cuts to Medicaid."
Davidson continues, "So it would cut federal medicaid funding. Is that a good idea?"
"Actually when I was Governor of Indiana, we got a waiver from the Obama administration, which actually allowed us to expand medicare coverage in the state," said V.P. Pence.
The video has already been seen more than 2.5 million times on Twitter.
"I think that speaks to the fact that as citizens when we have the opportunities, to tell our leaders what is actually going on in the real world so that they can get a glimpse of what folks are dealing with on the ground," said Davidson, reached over phone.
