GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Robert Scales has lost so much in just the last two days. His wife, Wanedia, and three children were killed in a fire just after midnight on Wednesday.
“I mean the whole city knows about it. I don’t think there’s one person in Grand Rapids that hasn’t heard about it,” Scales said.
He says it's his faith that's keeping him strong.
“You have a family to go home to every night. Wife and children…you know to me, that’s heaven on earth. I couldn’t ask for nothing more,” Scales said.
Robert says he'll cherish the moments he has had with his wife and children. Their family bond is one that can't be burned down.
“The foundation of any family and home should be god. If that foundation is not strong, then whatever house or structure you build on top of that foundation it’s not going to sustain itself,” Scales said.
Scales says he is overwhelmed by the support he's gotten.
