GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Let’s be honest, anxiety during the COVID-19 quarantine is heightened.
Anxiety is natural, and having the appropriate tools to work through it can make all the difference in the world.
That’s why non-profit organization Be Nice - Mental Health Foundation of West Michigan is now offering a new podcast to help people navigate their coronavirus anxiety.
The podcast comes in seven languages and is created in partnership with The Hispanic Center Western Michigan. It's called, “Navigating Mental Health During Quarantine.”
The goal of the podcast is to give listeners the tools to work through this emotional time by using the “Be Nice Action Plan.”
The podcast will help listeners understand what type of behaviors that that person is struggling with in a loved one should be a concern. Once listeners identify this, the podcast then helps them figure out how to start a conversation with the struggling person and ultimately where to go for help.
“We've got to be paying attention to these things because the wear and tear that this is going to have on everyone's mental health is astronomical,' says executive director and founder of the Be Nice program, Christy Buck.
"So, the way we're looking at the map with this illness being pandemic, we do need to take mental health seriously whenever we're listening to leaders of our country, the leaders of our counties, our public health departments,” claims Buck. "They are not only focusing on the physical health aspect of this, they are really looking at that mental health component."
There will be a new podcast every Wednesday.
