ALLEGAN, Mich. — Neighbors are relieved that children managed to escape from a falling tree in Allegan, as a result of severe thunderstorms that rolled through West Michigan Tuesday evening.

The children were playing on the porch of a home off of Park Avenue in Allegan, when the tree near the front started falling.

A nearby neighbor told the kids to run inside.

"All the neighbors came out. We ran outside to the side and started lifting branches until the mom came out and informed us that all the kids were safe inside. So that was like a breath of fresh air. It brought tears to your eyes, when you’ve got little ones like that. It’s all about the little ones," said Ray Hiempsra.

Heather Richardson's daughter, Sophia, was playing in the yard at the time with her friends.

"They were all screaming and crying and frantic. She was okay, she got a little bump on her noggin, and she got a little welt on her head, but she is good," said Richardson.

Those who live in the home are now staying with other relatives.
