The West Michigan Sports Commission is hosting its first esports tournament Grand Rapids Rift Clash Feb 7-9 at Celebration Cinema GR North, 2121 Celebration Dr. NE.
People will get to cheer on competitors as they battle on the screen. It features teams of five plus a coach and alternative player, playing the popular "League of Legends" online video game.
It is estimated that 200 colleges and universities nationwide offer esports programs including Aquinas College and Davenport University along with Jackson College.
