LANSING, Mich. — Governor Whitmer says she is disappointed with the protest at the capitol Wednesday, where people opposing her executive orders gathered and shut down traffic in downtown Lansing.
“I just urge you, don’t put yourself at risk. And don’t put others at risk either,” Governor Whitmer said.
Most people stayed in their cars. Some people did not. Whitmer specified in a press conference Wednesday, that this type of behavior that spreads COVID-19.
“I was really disappointed to see people congregating. Not wearing masks.” Whitmer said.
Whitmer also says she respects those protesters' right to free speech, but the actions Wednesday may have done more harm than good.
"People are flying the confederate flag and untold numbers who gassed up on the way here, or grabbed a bite on the way home," Whitmer said.
"We know that this rally endangered people. This kind of activity will put more people at risk and sadly it could prolong the amount of time we have to be in this posture."
