Traffic Update: New lane closures will back up traffic on I-96

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Drivers on eastbound I-96 remember traffic jams a few weeks ago from lane closures at Alpine Avenue. Those lane closures return today with added ramp closures:

I-96 in Walker and Grand Rapids

  • Left lane closed on eastbound I-96 from Alpine Avenue to Monroe Avenue.
  • Begins Monday 10 a.m. and continuous until Thursday afternoon (9/12-9/15)

Ramps at I-96 and US-131

  • Ramp closed from eastbound I-96 to northbound US-131.
  • Ramp closed from southbound US-131 to southbound I-96.
  • Pavement work in both cases through Thursday afternoon (9/12-9/15).

Ramp at US-131 and I-196

  • Ramp closed from southbound US-131 to westbound I-196.
  • Closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday (9/12).
  • Go east on I-196 to College Avenue, exit and return to westbound I-196.

US-31 in Grand Haven

  • Lane closure on southbound US-31 from Comstock Street to Ferris Street.
  • Scheduled 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday (9/12)

Other projects already underway:

US-131 in north Kent County

  • Lane closures on northbound and southbound US-131 between 17 Mile and the Montcalm County line.
  • Through October 18.

Leonard Street in Grand Rapids

  • Lane closures on Leonard Street for repaving between US-131 and Division Avenue.
  • Work will be at night until October 31.

Division Avenue in Grand Rapids

  • Lane closures on Division Avenue repaving between I-196 and Leonard Street.
  • Work will be at night until October 31.

Alger Street in Grand Rapids

  • Alger Street closed west of Plymouth Avenue.
  • Bridge repair over the CSX railroad tracks.
  • Until November 30.

10 Mile in Sparta

  • 10 Mile closed between M-37 and Alpine Avenue.
  • Through September 30.

Diamond Avenue in Grand Rapids

  • Northbound Diamond Avenue closed for repaving between Michigan Street and Leonard Street.
  • Southbound Diamond Avenue open.
