EAST LANSING, Mich — Calvin Christian senior guard Tony DeWitte went 10-11 from the field in the first half scoring 26 of his game high 31 points leading the Squires to a 65-42 win over previously unbeaten McBain.
“It’s probably one of my best shooting games but we have so many threats on this team that it helps me get open when guys are knocking down shots too because as a team we shot 70 percent so my teammates find me and get me open, that helps” DeWitte said.
Calvin Christian shot 59.5% from the field in the game including 70% in the first half. The Squires led 36-22 at the half.
The performance was not that out of the ordinary for DeWitte who scored 31 in both district games and 24 in Tuesday’s quarterfinal win.
“District final Braden (Stevens) went down in the third quarter and he came over and said what do you think should I try and create and stuff and I’m like absolutely and he took over and scored 16 or 18 points in one quarter that night so this isn’t unusual for him.” Calvin Christian head coach Ryan Stevens said.
The Squires will play in Saturday’s 4:30 p.m. class C state championship game against defending state champion Flint Beecher.
