MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. - Two communities recently hit by violence will get together this week for a "Unity Basketball Game."
Muskegon Heights will host Kalamazoo Lakeside Charter Wednesday night at 7:00pm.
In late January, four people were shot outside after a basketball game in Muskegon Heights versus Ottawa Hills. Police believe that shooting was a continuation of a previous dispute, but Shelby High School canceled a game afterwards citing the threat of violence.
And in Kalamazoo, six people were killed, including a Mattawan High School senior after a mass shooting last weekend. Lakeside director Steve Laidacker said the game will be a chance for both communities to "enjoy the more normal side of life, even if just for two hours."
The Unity Game will coincide with Parent's Night at Muskegon Heights.
