GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Four public meetings are planned to give citizens of Grand Rapids plenty of opportunity to help create a “candidate profile” to help find the right person to lead the Grand Rapids Fire Department. Chief Laura Knapp retired Jan. 9 and Deputy Fire Chief Margaret Felix was named interim fire chief.

Four public meetings have been scheduled to find out from residents what they consider important in the next fire chief. All meeting times are 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.:

  • Wednesday, Jan. 27, City High Middle School, 1720 Plainfield NE
  • Monday, Feb. 1, Union High School, 1800 Tremont Blvd NW
  • Wednesday, Feb. 3. Gerald R. Ford Middle School, 851 Madison SE
  • Thursday, Feb. 4, Cesar E. Chavez Elementary, 1205 Grandville SW

An online survey is also available for residents to provide input.
