WHITEHALL, Mich. - A popular Muskegon County lake isn't looking like itself anymore.
The wind, waves and rain from last week's storm sent sand rushing down the sand dunes along Lake Michigan, closing off the channel to Duck Lake.
The DNR and Muskegon County Parks services are keeping a close eye on the situation. Residents have been coming out to check out the changes. The channel is popular for both swimming and fishing.
The DNR says that the change shouldn't affect wildlife or local homeowners, but they'll be watching to make sure water levels don't rise too high. They say they won't go in and open up the channel on their own unless the water levels get close to the top of the bridge or if homes near Duck Lake begin flooding.
They expect the channel to open up on its own in the next week or so.
