Most people encounter swarms of bees accidentally. But Montana State Police troopers were surprised to pull over a driver who was transporting five hives of bees flying around in his car. On purpose.
On May 22, MHP reported on their Facebook page, they got calls on a vehicle driving all over the road, not an unusual call to any police organization. But the report said the car was infested with bees all over the inside.
After they located the car and pulled over the driver, they indeed found the car full of bees. The driver told them they were a harmless variety called Russian Honey Bees.
The troopers contacted the Montana state apiarist (apparently state have bee specialists on staff) who told them that the driver didn’t need any special permit to transport the bees in the state, though it wasn’t exactly the safest way to do it.
They cited the driver for careless driving and he and his bees buzzed off.
