GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.-For Burt Steeves of Ada, Wednesday was just another day. Another day, in that he played two games of full-court pick-up basketball at MVP Fieldhouse in Grand Rapids. However, it's out of the ordinary when you consider it was his 90th birthday. Burt first picked up a basketball 80 years ago and has loved the sport ever since. He even managed to squeeze in his favorite sport while in the Marines during World War 2 and after the war, he played JV Basketball at the University of Connecticut.
Burt's wife says his passion for the sport is why he's still going strong. "I think that's why he's here, you've got to have a passion about something. And he's got it," said Adele Steeves. Burt meanwhile credits his wife for taking such good care of him. "I've got a wonderful wife, she encourages me and keeps my diet and makes sure I get my exercise. " Whatever it is, as his fellow players say, "Burt is a true inspiration."
