MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Uber and Lyft drivers are being threatened with arrest and fines, says WREG.
Uber and Lyft are companies that use apps to connect people who are willing to pay for a ride and drivers who have signed up to provide the service. Cab companies have been demanding the services be subject to the same regulations cabbies face.
In Grand Rapids, city commissioners have been unsure whether to regulate Uber, which officially began operations in Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo this week.
In Memphis, a city of about three times the population of Grand Rapids, the city says police will be enforcing city permit rules, which could lead to arrests and fines.
