CUTLERVILE, Mich (May 3, 2014) — South Christian quarterback Jon Wassink has verbally committed to play football at Western Michigan University.

“I’m very comfortable with the atmosphere, the coaches and some of the players there, I’ve prayed about it and I think God is leading me there and it’s also very local and my family and some local fans can watch me play at Western too.” Wassink said.

Wassink led the Sailors to the division 4 state championship game last season and has a career record of 22-5 in 2 seasons as a starting quarterback on varsity.

South Christian figures to have another very good team this fall with Wassink under center.  He said this commitment allows him to focus on his senior season of high school.  “It allows me to focus on some of the things I want to focus on with my team, focus on winning a state championship next year and building with my high school teammates yet, it give me time to spend with them and not focus on my recruiting”

It’s been a busy 24 hours for Jon,  he had prom Friday night and then drove down to Kalamazoo early Saturday to commit to head coach P.J. Fleck in person.  “He was really excited, he gave me a big hug so that was cool”  Wassink said.
