Man Nearly Crushed After Being Dumped Into Garbage Truck

Posted

HOLLAND, Mich. (May 2, 2014) — A Muskegon man was rescued from a garbage truck after he was inadvertently dumped into it and trapped, said a release from the Holland Department of Public Safety.

The man, 46, had apparently climbed into a dumpster at Parkview Apartments at 9th Street and Columbia Avenue around 9 p.m. Thursday to get out of the weather and fell asleep. He was awakened by the shock of being dumped into a garbage truck. The driver operated the truck’s compacting mechanism, but the man managed to avoid being crushed.

The driver didn’t know what had happened until he made the next dumpster stop, started up the compactor again, and heard yelling and pounding.

Emergency personnel were called to the scene on E. 11th Street around 7:15 a.m. Friday. The man was treated at the scene and taken to Holland Hospital in stable condition.
