GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.- There are hundreds of Apps available for smart phones, and Traverse City resident Joseph Walker is a big fan of them. For example, Foursquare, which allows users the ability to “check in” at a location, to keep everyone in the loop, while giving them inspiration of places to visit. Also, it can give suggestions on what place might want to visit next. Friends can compete to be the fake “mayor” of a location-based on who hits the “check-in” button the most.
“One day, I was competing with a friend of mine to become the mayor of my favorite coffee shop, and I won after a lot of work, and I thought, I should get something for this.” Walker explained as one of the reasons behind Ozmott.
He also went on to explain how his wife’s out-of-town business trip, allowing him to play video games for 48 hours, put his thoughts into motion, too.
“I put all of this work into this game to earn these experience points, which is like a virtual currency and I couldn’t do anything with them.” Walker added.
All of these ideas combined, along with a couple of others, are now behind the free App known as Ozmott.
There are more than 120 locations in Grand Rapids that you will find through this App, like Lee & Birch, a downtown clothing store for woman.
“Hit start shopping. These are all of the participating stores listed in order of proximity. We’re in Lee & Birch so that’s at the top. If I tap on that, there are the offers that are available in this store, information about the store.” Walker demonstrated.
Shoppers can choose to redeem the offer, share the news of what they snagged with their friends, also earning Pips. Here is how Pips are explained on their website: “In the Ozmott world, Pips are awarded for redeeming and sharing offers. The more redeeming and sharing you do, the more Pips you earn. Once you have enough Pips we’ll welcome you into the high society by unlocking our Luxe Offers. Trust us, having access to Luxe Offers is nothing short of amazing.”
