SHIPSHEWANA, Ind. –After heading north to the Traverse City area, we decided to see if one tank of gas would get us to the Amish country of Indiana.
Our “One Tank Trip” took us to Shipshewana, a town that’s less than one square mile in size with a population of a little more than 500 who area mostly of Amish and Mennonite extraction.
We stopped at the Blue Gate Restaurant for breakfast, and then headed off to the popular flea market.
We did some serious shopping at the Davis Mercantile, a building that houses stores like North Face and also features a carousel on the top floor.
We finished our day with a buggy ride through the Amish and Mennonite communities, which gave us a good look at how the people of Shipshewana spend their days.
