GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — While traffic backups are inevitable on US-131 when crashes occur, drivers no longer to deal with the construction north of downtown Grand Rapids.

All lanes were opened early Thursday on northbound US-131 after months of lane closures and traffic shifts from I-196 to Ann Street.

In addition, the ramp from eastbound I-196 to northbound US-131 was reopened. It had been closed since April.

There’s more work to be done, however.

The new weave-merge lane between Leonard Street and Ann Street remains closed until Thursday night, October 3. And the ramp fro Leonard Street to northbound US-131 remains closed until midnight Sunday night, September 29.

In an unrelated project, the ramp from westbound I-196 to northbound US-131 will be closed for several days, from 9 p.m. Monday, September 30, until 9 p.m. Thursday, October 3. The detour calls for you to continue west to exit at Lane Avenue and return westbound on I-196 to US-131.
