US-131 Ramps And Downtown GR Streets Affected By Fifth Third River Bank Run

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — With tens of thousands of runners and walkers on several different courses Saturday morning, downtown traffic will see significant blockages and a set of ramp closures.

These US-131 ramps will be affected by the race:

  • US-131 northbound and southbound on and off ramps at Pearl Street will be closed Saturday morning from 6:45 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
  • US-131 southbound off ramp and northbound on ramp at Market Avenue closed from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.
  • I-196 eastbound and westbound exit and entrance ramps at Market Avenue closed from 8 a.m. to 9:15 a.m.

Many downtown Grand Rapids streets are closed due to the running of several races. There’s a different course for each race, the 25K, the 10K, and the 5K. There’s also a 5K walk:

Friday

  • Ottawa Avenue closes at 3 p.m. between Michigan Street and Lyon Street (Access available to the ramp beneath Calder Plaza from Ottawa Avenue until 9 p.m.). Ottawa Avenue remains closed between Michigan Street and Pearl Street until cleanup is finished around 5 p.m. Saturday.
  • Lyon Street closes at 6 p.m. between Ionia Avenue and Monroe Avenue.
  • Monroe Center (the diagonal street at Rose Parks Circle) closes at 7 p.m. between Monroe Avenue and Ottawa Avenue.

Saturday before races

  • Monroe Avenue between Michigan Street and Louis Street closes before 6 a.m.
  • Bridge Street eastbound lanes close at 4:30 a.m. between Scribner Avenue and Monroe Avenue
  • Ottawa Avenue closure expands to Michigan Street south to Fulton Street at 6 a.m.
  • 5K Course closings are in effect at 6:45 a.m. Saturday
  • 10K Course closings are in effect at 7:45 a.m. Saturday
  • 25K course closings are in effect at 7:45 a.m. in downtown Grand Rapids. Streets along the course will officially close 15 minutes ahead of lead runners. The 25K begins at 8:20 a.m.

Street Openings

  • Monroe Avenue will open about 10:30 a.m. between Pearl Street and Michigan Street
  • Several downtown streets remain closed until noon: Monroe Avenue between Michigan Street and Fulton Street, Pearl Street between Monroe Avenue and Ionia Avenue, Louis Street between Monroe Avenue and Ionia Avenue, Fulton Street between Ottawa Avenue and Winter Avenue
