Nelsons Speed Shop Set to Hold Grand Opening After Second Fire

Posted

GREENVILLE, Mich.- On June 22, 2012, Nelsons Speed Shop just north of Greenville, suffered its second devastating fire in 11 years. Around 1:30 a.m. numerous fire crews were dispatched yet again, reopening an open wound for owner Jack Nelson. Snowmobiles, off-road vehicles and vintage items, all destroyed again.

The 2001 fire was ruled arson but many questions still surround the 2012 blaze.

Customers urged Nelson to rebuild yet again.

“We had to consider a lot of different options and areas we were gonna change or do better or maybe we were too big in our old building and needed to change some things, so we regrouped and sat down and actually changed designs probably half a dozen times.” Owner Jack Nelson said.

Back in November of 2012, Nelson told FOX 17 that compliance with new laws made the recent design challenging. The final design has a northern feel; a warm cozy cabin, if you will and it is a bit smaller than the last one. Until it was finished, his staff set up shop in temporary trailers on the property.

Now its time to show off his new store to the public. On Saturday, May 18 from 9 a.m. to 1p.m. a grand opening will be held.

Nelsons is also known for its Sno-Motion event. This is where snow that’s been stored underground is brought back out in the summer for a spectacular  show. This year, mark your calendars for Aug. 23 & 24. There will be monster trucks, retailers and lawn mower races, too.
