PORTAGE, Mich. — The Wednesday morning commute started off badly with the early closure of westbound lanes of I-94 due to a jackknifed semi. Plus, a lane was blocked by a semi slide-off on westbound I-196 at the Byron Road exit in Zeeland.
But it wasn’t the first such problem for the expressways.
Notices from the Michigan Department of Transportation listed closures on I-94 all night. The westbound lanes were closed between 12th Street and 9th Street west of US-131 around 12:30 a.m.
In Berrien County, two lanes were shutdown on I-94 eastbound at mile marker 28 around 1:20 a.m.
I-94 got a two-hour break after lanes were opened after 2 a.m., but a jackknifed semi blocked lanes again beteween 12th Street and 9th Street at around 4:45 a.m. MDOT reported one lane open shortly afterward as emergency crews worked to clear the road.
