ALLENDALE, Mich. — The bells of the two carillons on the campuses of Grand Valley State University will toll on Friday as part of a national day of mourning in remembrance of the victims of last Friday’s shootings in Newtown, Conn.
The tolling will be preceded by a moment of silence at 9:30 a.m. Then the bells will ring 26 times, once for each victim at Sandy Hook Elementary School, according to the GVSU web site.
Both the Cook Carillon on the Allendale Campus and the Beckering Family Carillon on the Pew campus in downtown Grand Rapids will participate.
