LANSING, Mich. — Governor Gretchen Whitmer is expected to make an annoucement this week approving the re-opening of gyms, as first reported by the Detroit Free Press.

The announcement is expected to come as early as Wednesday, with gyms anticipated to re-open after Labor Day Weekend.

Gyms wouldn't be the only facility re-opening, as in the upcoming announcement, Gov. Whitmer is also expected to re-open theaters, bowling alleys, and ice rinks.

All of these facilites have been closed for almost six months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In workout facilities, face masks are expected to be required for employees when six feet of distance cannot be maintained, as well as for customers when arriving, leaving and moving about the gym.

Face masks are also expected to be required in movie theaters, bowling alleys and ice rinks.
