BATTLE CREEK, MICH. — The deadline is looming for small businesses impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic to apply for loans.

Battle Creek's Economic Development Corporation created a program to provide 0% interest loans for some small businesses affected by the pandemic.

The rent and mortgage assistance program will benefit small businesses in certain business districts.

The city has pledged $150,000 for businesses to use the money for commercial rent or mortgage payments during May and June 2020.

This initiative is especially for businesses with 10 or less employees in certain parts of the city like areas along Beckley Road, Columbia Avenue, Capital Avenue SW, and West Michigan Avenue, in the Urbandale Area.

We're told the goal is to stabilize businesses that are facing financial challenges.

Small business owners can use this short-term relief in conjunction with other local, state, and federal programs.

Businesses can receive a maximum of $2,000 per month during May, June, and July of 2020.

The application is on the city's website and the deadline to apply is 5 PM Monday, May 11.
