ANN ARBOR (WXYZ) — The University of Michigan Athletic Department announced Thursday that football players will be wearing helmets with a decal featuring the word "equality" and six raised fists. The fists are all in different skin tones to reflect campus unity and diversity, a release states.

The debut of this student-athlete initiative will be Saturday, Oct. 24 during the football season-opening game in Minnesota.

"Athletes wearing this decal demonstrates our role in our community," said senior football student-athlete Kwity Paye, who is majoring in AfroAmerican and African Studies. "It is a chance for us to be able to contribute to increasing awareness about social injustice, and it's great for those watching to see our passion so they can be aware of it as well."
