GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Drivers in downtown Grand Rapids are used to street closures, detours, and traffic shifts. But Division Avenue S. will be closed for four full months.

The closure is between Cherry and Wealthy streets from now through August.

Northbound traffic will use Jefferson Avenue between Logan and Wealthy streets. Southbound traffic will us Ionia Avenue between Cherry and McConnell streets.

The $4.6 million project will go all the way down to the water main and sewer line and replace intrastructure working up from there. In addition, the storm sewer system and lead lines to businesses will be replaced.

Then the sidewalks will be widened and the driving lanes reconfigured.

Cost of the project is being handled through the city’s Vital Streets Fund, water fund, capital improvement fund, Downtown Development Authority, and federal transportation funds.
