FOX 17 hosted the annual Pay it Forward awards gala Thursday afternoon, recognizing people who are giving back to West Michigan.
The gathering at Frederik Meijer Gardens honored everyone who was a Pay it Forward Person of the Month and revealed Person of the Year.
This year’s winner is Sawyer Hendrickson, a 10-year-old from Ludington who has sent thousands of care packages to soldiers overseas during the holidays. Sawyer has been recognized with Presidential Volunteer Service Award medals and met with military officials, wounded warriors and even addressed Congress to advocate for veterans.
Sawyer received a $2,500 check for her efforts.
