Three instructors at the Macomb Community College Police Academy have been banned from teaching.

Four instructors were accused of inappropriate behavior toward female recruits.

The instructors were current or retired police officers. The Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards banned three of them from teaching.

The controversy began with complaints from some recruits about unwanted comments or touching in May 2019.

One instructor could reportedly be back in the classroom, but must go through sexual harassment training.

Macomb Community College gave 7 Action News the following statement:

Macomb Community College does not tolerate harassment or inappropriate behavior. The college took immediate action when notified of allegations of inappropriate behavior by police academy instructors. The college has also taken proactive action to make sure students are aware of the multiple avenues available to them to report issues, incorporated male and female instructor teams in high-impact hands-on training situations, and supplemented the college’s online Title IX training with in-person training during instructor orientation.
