LANSING, Mich. — Authorities are warning people of a phone scam from people posing as Michigan health department officials attempting to steal personal information.
The attorney general’s office says scammers are contacting people pretending to be with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services in Kalamazoo County. The callers ask for information that can be used to steal identities.
Authorities say the phone numbers are often spoofed to appear to be coming from actual phone numbers for MDHHS.
Anyone who receives such a call should hang up the phone. MDHHS will never call and ask for detailed personal information.
