CHICAGO — A Michigan State University student was killed over her winter break in her hometown of Chicago.
FOX 2 reports 19-year-old Lyniah Bell was shot and killed Friday night while home for the holidays.
Witnesses told police they heard a gunshot and found Bell’s body in the bedroom of an apartment. An autopsy determined she died from a gunshot wound to the head and her death was a homicide.
The suspect, 18-year-old Lafayette Hodges, turned himself in early Saturday morning. He is facing a charge of involuntary manslaughter.
Investigators said the shooting is believed to be related to a domestic issue.
Bell’s cousin said she had received a full scholarship to MSU and was planning to major in business and journalism.
