Officials issued a Wireless Emergency Alert Monday night regarding Gov. Gretchen's Whitmer's stay-at-home order going into effect at midnight.

The alert reminded Michigan residents of when the order goes into effect and that nonessential travel is prohibited. It also said you are allowed to leave your home for health and safety reasons, groceries and supplies, some outdoor activities and to care for others.

Whitmer's order is in effect until April 13, requiring everyone to only leave their homes and residences under very limited circumstance and must adhere to social distancing rules. It prohibits all businesses and operations from requiring workers to leave their homes, unless those workers are necessary to sustain or protect life or to conduct minimum basic operations.

As a result of the stay-at-home requirements, the state-mandated school closures are extended for another week to April 13.
