A second elected state leader in Michigan says his home was targeted in a bomb threat just one day after conservative activist Charlie Kirk was killed in Utah.

State Senator Jeremy Moss (D-Southfield) posted on social media on Friday, saying he received a message on Thursday, September 11 threatening his home with a bomb. Moss, who serves as President Pro Tempore in the Michigan Senate, stated that police searched his property with a bomb-sniffing dog, finding no immediate danger.

The announcement came hours after Lieutenant Garlin Gilchrist revealed his home was also targeted in a threat on Thursday.

Moss said the threats were part of a growing number of interactions his office has had with the public.

"In the past few days, I’ve experienced a noticeable influx of bigoted, aggressive messages directed at my office and social media inboxes. We must reject this as the norm in our politics," he said in the social media post.

The threats were received after the assassination of Charlie Kirk on Tuesday in Utah. Federal and state investigators in Utah announced Friday the suspect was in custody.

Michigan State Police confirmed to FOX 17 that its bomb squad responded to both homes to investigate the threats on Thursday.

Both Democrats are running for new offices, Moss for Michigan's 11th Congressional seat and Gilchrist for Governor.
