LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Two state of Michigan employees who were fired over meal reimbursements have been reinstated by a hearing officer.

The officer found no trace of fraud and says they were given the boot over “petty amounts.”

Laura Kondel and Lisa McGlashen were examiners at the Department of Insurance and Financial Services.

They often traveled for work and were entitled to be reimbursed for meals.

Matthew Wyman, a Civil Service Commission hearing officer, says the lack of itemizing likely produced honest mistakes.

Wyman found any errors amounted to $52 or less out of hundreds of receipts over five years.
