MUSKEGON, Mich. — The Muskegon Community College Board of Trustees voted unanimously at its Feb. 22 online retreat to accept a $1.17 million purchase offer for a fitness center, according to a news release Tuesday.

The deal must still be approved by the board of the nonprofit organization that made the offer.

It was first announced by Chris A. McGuigan, former executive director of the Community Foundation for Muskegon County at MCC Board of Trustees online meeting on Feb. 17.

The name of the nonprofit McGuigan made the offer on behalf of isn’t being released as of Tuesday morning.

“I cannot tell you the name because this is a contingent offer until next week, when the Board of Directors meets and approves it, and we do expect approval of the offer as it was written,” McGuigan said during the MCC trustees’ meeting.

MCC Trustee Roy Portenga said the board thinks the deal is a win-win for the college, the community and the current members of the Lakeshore Fitness Center.

The purchaser’s name is expected to be made public after both boards have approved the deal.
