KALAMAZOO, Mich. — No one was left injured in a Kalamazoo apartment fire at the 700 block of Garland Circle that was believed to have started in an attic.

Sunday morning around 10:00 A.M. Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety responded to said fire on a report of smoke coming from the side of the building.

Upon arrival, firefighters found an apartment building with moderate smoke venting from the attic and requested a second alarm. The roof of the apartment building was ventilated, revealing the location of the fire.

Crews fought the fire from the roof and from the apartment below, as other crews worked to protect valuables in the remaining apartments from damage.

The fire was brought under control in about 30 minutes. The apartment building was evacuated upon arrival with no injuries reported.

The cause is being investigated by the fire marshal’s office.
