KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The city of Kalamazoo is issuing a curfew and calling on the National Guard after a riot overnight.
The curfew begins tonight at 7 p.m. and ends at 5 a.m. on Wednesday, according to Karianne Thomas, chief, Kalamazoo Public Safety.
She made the announcement at a news conference today after the riot.
People will be in violation of the curfew if they're out on city streets, unless they're going to or from work or in a medical situation.
Thomas said the Michigan National Guard will also be present to assist with the closure of streets and other areas that have been a target.
She added that the National Guard will allow Kalamazoo officers to answer other calls and ensure protesters and citizens are safe tonight.
