GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Heart of West Michigan United Way is hosting an online 'Stuff the Sled' drive in order to give presents to over 1,000 Head Start students in Kent County.
Each gift bag will hold an age-appropriate toy, book, game the family can enjoy, and hats and gloves.
United Way would specifically like 35 companies, groups, and families to sponsor classrooms, with every sponsorship benefiting 16 students. If you cannot commit to a classroom, United Way will help you set up a page that meets your group's budget. However, you also don't have to be part of a group to participate; you can buy individually from the online store.
Sponsors are asked to purchase at least 14 of each item, which will be quoted by teachers of the classroom you're assigned. The deadline to get involved is December 1st, in order to ensure time for sorting and delivering the gifts. Teams and organizations can sign up here.
Katelyn Olsen, Volunteer Center Manager for Heart of West Michigan United Way, joined Fox 17 live to discuss the 'Stuff the Sled' drive in further detail.
