4:30 p.m. update: Officers have arrested a suspect regarding this incident, as a 17-year-old man who was in possession of the key to the stolen vehicle.

The suspect also had evidence from this incident, as well as a similar breaking and entering (B&E) in the city of Kentwood

At 11:30 a.m. today, the vehicle in question was located at a hotel parking lot in the area of 28th Street/East Beltline SE

The suspect was arrested and lodged on various charges at Kent County Correctional Facility.

This is in response to a man being hospitalized after suffering an accidental gunshot wound and a business was broken into early Sunday night.

Grand Rapids Police Officers were first called to 2200 Plainfield NE around 4 a.m., where witnesses say a group exited an SUV and broke into a retail business. Police later identified the business as the Purple East tobacco shop, located at 2221 Plainfield Ave. NE.

The suspects first broke the glass on the storefront, then three of them entered and stole a number of items.

They then fled, heading southbound on Plainfield.

Officers were then called to 12th St. and Jennette Ave. NW around 4:45 a.m. for reports of a man who was shot in the thigh.

The victim reportedly gave authorities conflicting stories, and while the wound is considered self-inflicted, officials want to make clear that there is no suspect information available.

The wounded man was taken to a nearby hospital and is expected to be ok.
